FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Three-Time Grammy-Winning Legends Returning to the Longs
Park Summer Music Series on July 26, 2009.
LANCASTER, PA -- Five years ago Los Lobos first came to Lancaster
on the invitation of the Longs Park Amphitheater Foundation.
Packing the park in 2004, theyre sure to do the same when
they return July 26, 2009 as part of the 47th annual Longs
Park Summer Music Series. The concert will begin at 7:30 pm.
Their performance will be sponsored by Susquehanna Bank. WXPN welcomes
Los Lobos as radio sponsor for the evening. XPNs World
Cafe hailed Los Lobos The Town and the City
album as one of the Top 10 CDs of 2006.
The three-time Grammy-winning legends from East LA has captivated
a following around the world in their 35 years of touring and recording.
Their debut album, How Will the Wolf Survive? made Rolling
Stones 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. In fact, Rolling
Stone noted that, with the exception of U2, no other band
has stayed on top of its game as long as Los Lobos. In 1984
they tied with Bruce Springsteen as Rolling Stones
Artist of the Year.
In addition to Rolling Stones accolades, Los Lobos
notched a number one single, soard to double platinum status with
their 1987 La Bamba soundtrack and sold millions of
other records.
The five-piece band boasts a body of work large enough to cripple
most bands. Across their career they have singlehandedly redefined
how a rock music can sound. Blending blues, rockabilly, jazz, Latin
and their own Mexican-American heritage, Los Lobos has treated
the world to music that crosses cultures, politics and agendas.
Many groups are eclectic, but few bands are as unpredictable and
successful as Los Lobos.
Their rise to stardom began in 1973 when David Hidalgo (vocals,
guitar and virtually anything strings), Louie Perex (drums, vocals
and guitar), Cesar Rosas (vocals and guitar) and Conrad Lozano (bass,
vocals and guitarrón) were still attending Garfield High
School in East Los Angeles. After graduation, they took their emerging
brand of souped-up Mexican folk music into LA restaurants and party
venues.
By the early 80s, Los Lobos tapped into LAs emerging
punk and college rock scenes. While sharing the stage with the Blasters,
they met saxophonist Steve Berlin. He eventually left the group
and joined Los Lobos, creating the quintet that still performs together
today.
