FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Nighthawks’ Co-founder Jimmy Thackery and His Trio Bringing Gritty Blues to Long’s Park August 30, 2009.

LANCASTER, PA -- In a super close to an outstanding season, the Long’s Park Amphitheater Foundation will host Jimmy Thackery & the Drivers on August 30, 2009. The gritty blues guitarist and cofounder of The Nighthawks will take the stage with his trio, The Drivers, in a free performance at 7:30 pm.

Singer, songwriter and guitar virtuoso Jimmy Thackery is known across the world of blues and rock for his innovative, explosive guitar playing. Thackery cofounded The Nighthawks in 1974 and was recognized as the heart, soul and adrenaline of their sound. It was during his tenure with The Nighthawks that he created his distinctively raw, powerful guitar style and established a reputation as a spectacular soloist.

Thackery left The Nighthawks in 1987 after 14 years, 20 albums and a 300-nights-a-year tour schedule, going on to collaborate on more than a dozen albums. In 1992, he formed his trio, The Drivers. With this group Thackery has proven that he is still the premier guitar pyrotechnician on the blues scene today. Said CD Review, “Jimmy Thackery has the tonal control, musical thought, expressive sincerity, velocity and discipline to rank near the top of the blues-rock heavyweight division.”

The Boston Globe was more succinct, calling him “a phenomenal guitarist, one of the best we've seen.” Said All Music Guide’s Richard Skelly, “[Thackery’s] hard-edged, tough-as-nails approach to guitar playing and his trio’s driving rhythm section holds appeal for fans of both the straight-ahead blues of Muddy Waters and the roots rock of Bruce Springsteen.”

Jimmy Thackery is joined by Michael Patrick on bass and Mark Stutso on drums and vocals. Together, the group has quickly forged a name for itself on the blues festival and club circuit.

The High Companies are cosponsoring this appearance by Jimmy Thackery & The Drivers.
